Photo of the month: August 2025
It’s another sports photo this month as I spent a very pleasant and productive afternoon at the Cambridge Criterium cycle event. Lots of action and very colourful so plan ty of scope for photography. This is one of my photos from the afternoon and was taken was taken with my Sony A7 III 1/80th at…

Photo of the month: July 2025
Not my usual genre but it was an opportunity not to be missed. Cambridge City was opening its new ground with a friendly against Cambridge United and I got the opportunity to go pitch-side. ‘Wear a high-viz’ they said. It was quite an experience so with my camera on burst mode I took a fair…

I walked to Ely the other day
—
Not a big deal you might say if you live in one of its adjacent villages but I live in Histon which makes it a 27 km hike. Even 27 km might not seem that far to some but although I do walk a lot and join groups that do regular Friday morning walks they…

Cycling to nowhere
It seems to be getting worse and the evidence is the buoyant business at stores like Rutland Cycles. More and more people are getting with the Lycra, buying expensive bikes and cycling round in circles. They’re not going anywhere but they’re getting miles in their legs. I guess it’s good for them, builds stamina, works…

Histon vs Barrow; 14 Aug 10
I’m not a great fan of football these days although you can’t avoid it and I did watch most of the more important world cup days. However I did grow up an avid fan, especially of non-league football of the Welsh variety, click here for more about that. Nowadays if it’s a choice I’d prefer…

in sportEvery month I write a monthly report. I do it because I’m a county councillor and it keeps the parish councils in my division up to date with what I do. I finish every report with a personal item. I thought you might like to read the one I wrote yesterday. You can read the…
