Histon & Impington: the big tidy up 1 Jun 13

???????????????????????????????I joined the regular litter pick in Histon & Impington this morning. It takes place every 3 months or so (there’s another regular pick run by the WI in between) and is expertly organised by Cedric Foster.

There is a national initiative (www.thebigtidyup.org) and it provides the tools and protective gear for the event.

There was a good turnout and by the time this weekend’s tidy up has been completed (some volunteers do their bit during the week) Histon & Impington will again be free of litter. And keeping it clear is a motivation for others not to litter and this makes the task much easier.

I did the footpaths that run from Melvyn Way to Saffron Road and it was almost a disappointment that there was not more to pick up. There were quite a few empty crisp packets and sweet wrappers and evidence of someone enjoying a 6 pack of Carlsberg Special Brew but little else. However what was disappointing was the amount of dog shit. Far too many dog walkers don’t bother picking up the mess which their dogs make.

Litter picks in Histon & Impington are advertised on posters in the village and via the Histon & Impington community email list at hisimp-chat@the-hug.net.
