This evening I enjoyed yet another breathtaking experience at Impington Village College. Dancers from Wayne McGregor | Random Dance have been in residency at the school working with students and creating original dance material. This evening they performed.
The students with whom Wayne McGregor | Random Dance worked were not just the elite few. Over 70 students from across the school took part. This included students in years 9 to 12 and students in the IDEAL Centre for post 16 special needs.
If anyone ever needed to be told what ‘inclusion’ means or of the advantages of mainstreaming students with special needs they should attend such an event. The involvement of so many students was brilliant; surely there would not normally be so many talented dancers in a schools like IVC. And the participation of the IDEAL students was a positive demonstration of how everyone has teh ability to contribute.
I am constantly impressed with what teachers and socal workers do with disadvantaged kids (see also the item of my visit to Haviland Way in Cambridge) and this evening was a wonderful testament to what that can achieve. Well done Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, well done to the staff at the school and well done to all who took part.
