Life’s too short to drink instant coffee

Photo of the month: September 2025

Another month , another flower photo. I guess flowers are to some extent easy because they don’t move.

The annual dahlia and cake competition at Histon Manor should present lots of photo opportunities but the weather wasn’t great. But I went along and gave it a go.

This was taken using my Sony RX100 VII 1/125th at f9 and ISO1600 and a 35mm equivalent zoom of 98mm.

There’s been some post processing because the photo itself was a bit of a challenge. It was a rather wet day so all the prize dahlias were inside a marquee so that meant a high ISO. Behind this one was a scratched flexible plastic window and after the fact I realised that there were people outside making for a distracting background. I managed to overcome the window and people problems with a blurred background and some averaging of the colours. I trust no-one thinks that’s cheating.
