Wisbech sadly is not the town it was. It used to be a thriving trading post with the elegant buildings that would go with it. And it was home to social pioneers like Octavia Hill (urban poverty) and Thomas Clarkson (slavery). In recent years it’s become dependant on agriculture with the its low wages and it’s lost its rail connection. But it’s still worth a visit and there are photo opportunities. The building is 5 North Brink and used to be the Phoenix Hotel, formely the White Harte Hotel. It’s a grade II listed building.
I took the photograph with my Sony A7 III 1/500th at f3.5 ISO 100 and 53mm on the zoom. It’s not a perfect framing but I like the backwards look and the satin sheen of the dress, and the link with others in the subject’s party standing by a car of a different colour.
I have another version with the subject moved to be within the arch but I think that makes it rather cynical.
