Life’s too short to drink instant coffee

A picture for every year: 1977 to 1991

Although I’ve got a lot more photographs of my life from 1976 onwards when I bought my first SLR camera actual photos of me have remained thin on the ground. This set covers my time in Hong Kong and almost to the end of my time in Switzerland.

Top left is me in Hong Kong and then next it’s 1978 and my wedding day. We left Hong Kong in 1979 and that’s me centre back, Juni’s to my left in the stripey shirt, at our leaving party. Then it’s a photo outside at a community barbeque in Switzerland and top right we are enjoying fine food and Tiger beer at Newton Circus in Singapore.

Middle left is a first photograph of Clare then a works photograph of my purchasing team in Rheinmunster. Centre is a first appearance of Charles then all four of us at home with Paul and Ursi Gooch. On the right it’s me with Jean-Francois Pollailon and one other from our French distributor Lambert Riviere on the way to see Wales v France at the Arms Park. Wales lost 15-23.

Bottom left is a more successful day when the Dow team beat Colorcon at the annual clay pigeon shoot. L to R it’s me, Melvyn Bowman, Ian Davenport and Peter Blakely with Dave Phillips in front. Ian and I are still in touch.

Next up is a Middle East Sales meeting in Istanbul. I’m third left. Then Juni and I attended a rather swanky wedding in Germany and I looked remarkably lean and tanned at Club Med in Bali. Finally in 1991 there’s a shot of me when all four of us attended a tennis camp in the newly independent Czechoslovakia.
